Lawrence Murphy is the founder of Worldwide Therapy Online, the world’s first online clinical practice, which was established in 1994. In collaboration with the National Board for Certified Counselors, he authored the first ethical code for online counselling. Through Therapy Online’s Research Institute, Lawrence and his colleagues publish regularly in the academic literature, including their seminal 1998 work When Writing Helps To Heal, which has been cited more than 270 times. Therapy Online delivers 2 levels of training in cybercounselling and licenses software to individuals and agencies keen to deliver services online. Lawrence received his MA in Counselling Psychology from the University of British Columbia in 1995 and holds an adjunct appointment in the School of Graduate Studies at the University of Toronto.
